Now, I am not stating myself that i believe Hip Hop is the New Christianity or Islam. The truth is, it hasn't been around long enough to claim such a title. However, it would be naive to say that Hip Hop and Religion do not share similar qualities. It is plain to see from both of their definitions that they encompass much of the same philosophy. A devout Christian or Jew might argue that Hip Hop promotes violence, sex, misogyny, among other things that clearly go against all that is "Holy". But if we dig deep into what Hip Hop REALLY is, the kind of Hip Hop KRS-One reveals to us, then i think the makings of a possible Faith and following are definitely in the making. We must also remember that religion has become more and more relevant in the Hip Hop discourse of today. Hip Hop's roots started from revolution and ended in the formation of a culture and community. Religion came from a similar seed.
